Upon the request of a group of mayors and Rare, the Ministry of Environment agreed that local patronatos (community associations) would be eligible to receive funds from its special Wildlife Protection Fund provided them met certain registration requirements. Two groups have already completed the requirements and have received funds to be used for community management of their protected areas, and many more are working on theirs.
